She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all who knew and loved her.
Hazel grew up on her family farm in Granbury, Texas where she milked cows and helped her father with their watermelon crop. She graduated from Granbury High School, class of 1938, she played basketball and was a pitcher on the softball team. She moved to Fort Worth as a nanny and worked at the Quartermaster Depot during World War II. On May25, 1946 she married ex-POW E. M. Shannon. She was and excellent homemaker, cook and baker. She was renowned for candy making and her divinity which was a popular item at church auctions. Hazel was a talented artist, PTA president, active in her church and bowled a 203 personal best!
Hazel is survived by her sons; Ronald and Gary Shannon, granddaughter; Amy and husband Tom Feisthamel(Utah), grandson; Henry Shannon and great grandsons; Ben Cooper and Cole Feisthamel(Utah), sisters-in-laws; Ann and Salty Copeland and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Hazel will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Boulevard, Colleyville, TX 76034. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Woodland Heights Baptist Church, 3712 Central Drive, Bedford, TX 76021. A committal service will occur Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Acton Cemetery, in Acton, TX.
