A proud Navy veteran, Roy F. Legere 71, of Pine Cliff Road, Alstead, NH, passed away on Monday evening, January 22, 2018 at the White River Junction Veterans Administration Medical Center in White River Junction, VT.
Roy’s parents, Joseph R. and Mary I. (Melanson) Legere proudly welcomed their son into the world on February 3, 1946 in Waltham, Mass.
Growing up in Somers, CT, Roy paved the way for his love of sports. Roy excelled at baseball, track and soccer, and was a member of the Somers High School teams. This love of sports and of the game, lead him to be a very successful coach of his son’s youth baseball team.
The perfect day for Roy would find him rising in the morning, enjoying a huge breakfast, and then heading out into the great outdoors, hunting or fishing; or tending to his vegetable and floral gardens. The day would not be complete without the opportunity to sit with family and friends, talking, and sharing stories.
Roy was proud to have served his country in the Navy from September of 1964 until his honorable discharge in September of 1968.
He had a great talent of working with his hand and mind, in sink, as an accomplished electrician, working for various companies including Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, CT. Hard work was no stranger to Roy, a trait he instilled in his children as well.
Roy took great pride in caring for his home and tending his gardens. He could be found with a huge smile on his face when folks passing by would acknowledge how beautiful everything looked. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends and family, and he loved to go to auctions. He was an avid sports fan, especially the NY Yankees, and Roy also enjoyed watching his favorite show, The Price Is Right, every day. Roy loved listening to music, especially the music of the 50’s and 60’s including Buddy Holly.
He was a parishioner of St. Peter Church in North Walpole, NH and St. Catherine Church in Charlestown, NH.
Roy will be missed by many, including his two sons, Roy F. Legere Jr. of Hampden, MA and Edward Legere of Chicopee, MA; his daughter, Kelly Weinberg and her husband, Waverly, of Hampden, MA; his five grandchildren, Tatum Legere, Sage, Legere, Graycen Legere, Holly Weinberg, Drew Weinberg; his two brothers, Paul Legere of Springfield, MA, Scott Legere of Tampa, FL; a sister, Sharon Legere of Boston, MA; his soulmate, Juanita Wilson of Alstead; Juanita’s children, Sherry Mattson and her husband, Eric, of Swanzey, NH, Sheila Wilson of Alstead, Samara Paice and her husband, Scott, of Bradenton, FL, Larry Wilson, of Keene, NH, Rock Wilson and his wife, Audra, of Alstead, numerous grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 11:00AM in St. Peter Church, 39 Church Street, North Walpole, NH. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Drewsville Road, Walpole. There are no public calling hours.
