James B. Cook, 85 of Columbia died at home surrounded by his children and grandchildren on January 25, 2018. The memorial presented by Reverend Francis, will take place on Saturday January 27, 2018 at 11:30am at Sacred Heart Church. A luncheon immediately following services.
Jim was born on September 3, 1932 in St. Louis to John Francis and Emma Kelly Cook. He was raised in St. Louis. In 1954 he was drafted into the US Army, serving in the 24th Evacuation Hospital SMBL (Semi Mobile Unit). On his GI bill he earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Washington University and then his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from St. Louis University. He received his Ph.D from the Walden University. On July 6, 1957 he married Annie Laurie “Bonnie” Waddock, who proceeded him in death. He worked in public administration for St. Louis county before accepting a position as an instructor at the University of Missouri, Columbia, from which he retired after 32 years.
Preceded in death by parents John Francis and Emma Kelly Cook, two older brothers John and Edward Cook. Survived by four children, James B. Cook Jr (Julie), Pranny Whitesides (Dennis), Jody Cook, and Stephanie Johnson (Kevin), six adoring grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice or Veterans of Foreign Wars.
