Joe Melvin Green from Austin Texas passed away on January 27th, 2018. Joe was born on October 9th, 1947 in Dallas Texas to parents Harry Green and Celia Green and was the oldest of his two brothers Leonard and Maury. He attended High School in Dallas and graduated from East Texas State University with a degree in Industrial Arts with an emphasis in Printing. Joe had been living in Austin Texas for the last 30+ years. When we look back on his life, Joe lived a life that few other people could imagine with the physical and mental disabilities he endured but that life was a good life that was right for Joe. Everyone who encountered Joe enjoyed his loving spirit and his passion for the things that were important to him. Joe was an avid collector of stamps, coins and postcards and was an avid builder of all kinds of crafts with a specialty in miniature items. Joe was also very passionate about his Jewish heritage and his Jewish religion. At his synagogue, he sang in the choir, attended services regularly and was quite involved during all special holiday events. For many years, he hosted a special Passover Seder that many of his friends commented on about how wonderful Joe made those events. Joe was also very committed to his family and sent cards to everyone on their birthday and on holidays. He also sent very special gifts that were made by Joe and were meticulously packed with special stamps on the box that Joe selected. Many commented on those gifts that you always knew that they were “coming from Joe”. With some of his mental challenges over the years, Joe was at times frustrated about being able to connect with people however, Joe’s love for people always came through and in 70 years of life there was never a bad thing heard about how he treated people. Joe lived his life doing the things he loved and even with the challenges he had, he always persevered. Whether it was stamp collecting, being a steward of his Jewish faith, giving to others, making crafts, cooking or the many things he did, he always smiled on others and gave them the special glow that only Joe could do. Joe was a fighter and through much adversity and falls in his life, he always got back up and fought on. Even though some may say Joe lived a tough life, he also lived a life with tremendous joy. There will never be another person like Joe Melvin Green and he will be missed so very much.
