Lifelong Harwich Resident, Advocate for Education, Entrepreneur
James G. “Jimmy” Marceline, 92, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2018. He was the loving husband of the late Elizabeth M. “Lillian” Marceline.
Born and raised in Harwich, Jimmy was a man truly devoted to the place he called home. There is not a corner of the Town of Harwich that he didn’t touch. Over the years he was actively involved in the growth and improvement of the town, attended Town Meeting whenever possible, and helped in the formation of municipal organizations such as the Cranberry Valley Golf Course. Always a fierce advocate for education, Jimmy provided constant support for the Harwich School System at all levels and played a vital role in the establishment of the Cape Cod Regional Technical High School. His hard work for Harwich and her residents earned him honors such as being an inaugural inductee into the Harwich High School Hall of Fame. He was also a recipient of the Thomas P. “Tip” O’Neill Memorial Award for his advocacy work on behalf of those less fortunate.
Jimmy Marceline not only served the Town of Harwich but also proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII earning numerous military awards and honors.
Jimmy built and established Marceline Salvage and Trucking and was a junk dealer by trade most of his life. His business thrived because he was a man who saw the value in everything. For him, there was always something that needed to be done. It was this drive and desire to work that kept him going for over 90 years.
When not working, Jimmy always enjoyed reading the daily newspaper, tending to his garden or farm, watching a baseball, basketball, or football game on TV or having a hot, delicious meal with family or friends.
Jimmy Marceline was the father of Mary Rita Leyva and spouse Rafael of Harwich, Wayne L. Marceline of Harwich, Gwen P. Marceline and spouse Eric Rosen of Arlington, Carole M.
