John (Jack) Wallace MacDonald was a brave fighter and lost his battle with cancer on February 13, 2018 at the age of 74. He was born January 10, 1944 in Boston, MA to Virginia Helen (Wallace) and John William MacDonald.
Jack will be lovingly remembered by his adoring wife of 52 years, Dorothy (Detrano) and their children; son John William MacDonald and his wife Rebecca of Allentown, PA, and daughter Kristen MacDonald Longueil and her husband Richard of Sandwich, MA. Jack’s greatest treasure was his family and greatest joys were following the successes of his four incredible grandchildren; Jack, Emma, Joseph and Ian. Jack will be forever remembered by his family and friends as being someone they could count on for help, advice, direction, and love. He was well known on the South Shore and Cape Cod for his years of managing various grocery stores. He was also an avid Boston sports fan, reader and loved golfing with friends and family. Jack served in many organizations including the Knights of Columbus, Cape Abilities of Cape Cod, and the Echo Retreat for Youth. He was also the envy of the neighborhood for his perfect lawn.
Jack is predeceased by his brother Robert. He leaves behind his sister-in-law Kathleen of Old Saybrook, CT, his brothers Paul and wife Kathleen of Hanover, Joseph and wife Joan of Hull, sisters Virginia Allan of Braintree, Joan Bonner and husband John of Scituate, Carol Simmons Rud and husband Gil of Coronado, CA. He will be dearly missed by his 24 loving nieces and nephews.
Jack’s unwavering faith was an inspiration to all who crossed his path.
With services being held during Lent, flowers are not permitted in the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or the ACTS Ministry of Corpus Christi Church in Sandwich, where Jack found great comfort, great peace, and great friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held in the Corpus Christi Church, 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Rd., East Sandwich, on Saturday, February 17th at 11:00am. Immediately following the service, a celebration of Jack’s life will be held in the parish hall adjacent to the church.
