William D. McClelland, known to many as Mac, as born on December 13, 1931 in Elgin, Nebraska to parents, Ruth Tuttle McClelland and Elmer E.E. McClelland. He was a graduate of Franklin High School in Portland, Oregon.
After graduating he attended Vanport College for one year. Mac was offered a scholarship to Reed College but was called up for active duty in the United States Air Force where he was honorably discharged. He later graduated from Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Michigan with an Associate's of Applied Science.
On October 18, 1952 Mac married Annetta Louise Wainwright in Portland, Oregon. The two were married for over 65 years.
Mac started his career at Columbia Equipment. He later worked as a Lead Tech at Carrier Corp in Beaverton, Oregon. He retired on December 31, 1993. Starting in the 1970's Mac taught apprentices at Local 290. He continued well after retirement, gaining a second retirement from teaching in the spring of 2010.
He was a loyal member of UA Local 290, Eagle Scouts, Charter Member of Gateway Elks, lifetime member of the NRA and the American Legion. He also volunteered with CASA during his retirement years. Mac was a lifelong learner. He loved reading and tinkering around in his garage.
Preceding him in death is his brother, Lee on October 3, 2017 and brother, Paul on November 30, 2017.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anne; children, Patty, Jan (Dean) Newton, Mary (Lindsay) Gertson, and Mark; grandchildren, Tyrel (Christie) Newton, Megan Gertson, and Chelsea (Nick) Lemire; great granddaughters, Hailey and Emma Grace; sister-in-law, Carolyn McClelland; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousin.
He will be missed greatly.
