She was born on October 30, 1933 to the late Harley and Virgie Norton in Yancey County. Elouise was the wife of the late Vero Hughes. She is also preceded in death by three brothers, John Manion, Tommy and Bobby Norton; two sisters, Ann Hill and Molly Herrin; two grandsons, Jimmy Stanfill and Timothy Carter.
Survivors include her daughters, Delores Hunt of Mayoden, NC, Bertie Starr (Buddy) of Burnsville, Sherry Pope of Hickory; son, Stacey Hughes (Heather) of Hickory; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; brother, Perry Norton (Doris), sisters; Nell Cooper, Marie Proffitt all of Burnsville, Carolyn Cooper of Conover , Gerline Proffitt (Gene) of Marion, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Hickory Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Reverend Bill Sturm will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
