Bill was a WWII Army Aircorp Veteran. He was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. Bill was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, The American Defense Service Medal, The Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and Five Bronze Stars. Bill was very proud to serve his country.
Bill also served in the Civil Conservation Corp (CCC). Bill was always there for his family and friends. Always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed bowling and golfing, and going to the rifle range. Bill retired from DuPont with 38 years of service, having only missed two days of work.
Bill was born October 14, 1919 to the late Jacob and Margaret H. Green Winters. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 52 1/2 years, Betty Jo Burton Winters.
Left to cherish his memory are loving children, David Lee Winters (Tracy) of Camden, North Carolina, William Douglas Winters of Poca, Sharon A. Winters Hogge (Bill) of Sumter, South Carolina, and Brian Scott Winters of Kenna; grandchildren, Jaclyn Vanderpool of Elgin, Oklahoma, Cari Winters Lemon of Charleston, Blaine Winters of Charleston, Ted Hogge and Todd Hogge both of South Carolina; great-grandchildren, Vivian, James, Chloe, Colton, Violet, Chelsy, Denise, Madison, Logan, and Lyndsey; and numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Service will be 2pm Friday, March 2, 2018 at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, WV with Celebrant H.R. Whittington officiating. Visitation will begin at 1pm Friday at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, WV 25311.
