Jim was born August 11, 1941 the son of James T. and Thelma M (Carter) Hurley. He married Carlene Holzkamper and she preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother Doug and two sons, Dion and James R. Hurley Jr.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy.
Jim was well known for his talent and craftsmanship in the auto body profession working at Kelly Matthews Auto Body, By Pass Auto Body, and then retired as the auto body shop manager at Giuffre Buick. After retirement, Jim continued his love and passion for the automobile and worked as a shuttle driver for Green Mazda.
Jim’s family was most important to him. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a proud fan of his grandson’s sprint car racing team.
He is survived by his 2 daughters; Traci (Dale) Carter of Chatham, IL, and Michelle (Jerry) Ray of Athens, IL, his 2 daughter’s-in law, Joyce Hurley of Springfield, and Linda Brown of Ashland, IL, he has 12 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, 4 brothers, Mike, and Mark Hurley, Kevin Hendricker and Scott Hazen, also 5 sisters: Mary Pershing, Nancy Holpzman, Janelle Hurley, Karla Lucas, and Kathy Hendricker. There are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private graveside services will be held. A celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
