Paul was born in Philadelphia, MS on January 8, 1925 to Elizabeth and Austin Martin. He attended Cold Water School in Philadelphia, MS.
Paul served his country during WWII at Ingalls’ Shipyard as a welder. After the war, Paul was employed by the Standard Oil Company. In Jackson, Paul continued his association with Standard Oil by operating a Standard Oil Service Station located in downtown Jackson. Paul began his bus driving career with Continental Trailways in 1959, retiring in 1982. Being an energetic and multi-talented man, Paul served his fellow man by offering his mechanical skills repairing autos, tractors, and small engines. His love for nature resulted in beautiful yards and bountiful gardens. He provided joy to his neighbors and public with memorable Christmas yard decorations. He and his wife, Carolyn, were regularly recognized for their efforts. Paul was also a member of Grand Lodge of MS, Forest Hill Lodge No. 613.
Paul is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carolyn Martin; sons, Tom Martin (Barbara) and Tim Martin (Betty); grandsons, Adam Martin and Alex Martin (Lyndsey); great grandson, Henry Martin and great granddaughter, Madelyn Martin. Paul’s surviving siblings, Wedell Martin, Charlene Clark, and Dorothy Martin join in celebrating his life.
Visitation for Paul will be Monday, March 5, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home, following a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 am. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Philadelphia at 2:00 pm.
