Jacob Armstrong, 88, of Kansas City, Missouri; loving husband, proud Dad, helpful brother, fun grandfather, Uncle, Great Uncle, kind brother-in-law; helpful and loyal friend flew away with the Angels on Thursday, March 2, 2018.
Jacob served in the US Air Force from 1946 to 1949.
He worked at the Kansas City Call Newspaper as a teletype operator for 20 years. Later, he ran the Home Healthcare department at Catholic Charities K.C. St. Joseph Inc. for 29 years.
Jacob was actively involved in church work and projects at Risen Christ and St. Monica Catholic Churches. He organized and started The Greeter Usher organization at Risen Christ. Jacob wrote the rules and by-laws and the duties of the officers. The Greeter Ushers presently, is an integral part of the worship services at St. Monica. He served at Chairman of the Church carnival at Risen Christ for 11 years consecutively.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Willie Mae Armstrong; his step-father Lewis Thomas; two sons, Jacob Jr. and Michael; brother Victor and 2 sisters, Sara Owsley and Elerie Winters.
Jacob's memory will be cherished by his wife of 40 years, Linda, daughter Marlee (Damian) and Family, son Tonnye (Chandra) and Family, sisters Evelyn B. Cheadle of Raytown, Etta Ross (Richard) of Kansas City, niece Diane Bradford and Family, sisters-in-law Joyce Boysaw and Family, Darnelle Manning and Family, special friends; Lawrence Blankenship, Mae and Henry Pearly, Katherine and Ernest McCraney, Freddye and Maurice Smith, and Toni Triplett. Others who will miss Jacob include six grand-children, 14 great-children, and nieces and nephews.
The family expresses thanks to Jacob's personal care givers: Tyler Caudle, Tamara Bradley, and Marcus Stanley. A special thanks to the Phoenix Hospice and the VA Home Base Program.
