Sara Ruth Knox Kearns, 94, was reunited with her husband in Heaven, on March 5, 2018. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be at 2 PM, Saturday, March 10 at Back Creek Presbyterian Church in Mt. Ulla, NC, officiated by Pastor Bill Thrailkill. She will be inurned next to her husband in the church cemetery.
Sara was born in Rowan County, the youngest of seven children for Scott Reid and Pearl Whitman Knox. She was educated at Women’s College (UNC-G) and for several years before marriage taught Home Economics and Chemistry. In 1949 she married Eugene Fuller Kearns and celebrated thirty-eight wonderful years until his passing in 1987. Fuller and Sara moved to Greensboro, NC in 1956 and became members of Faith Presbyterian Church in 1958, where she participated in various women’s groups. Sara loved the Lord and together she and Fuller raised three children in a loving and Christian Home.
Although Sara was a gifted and talented educator, her first calling was that of a wife and mother. She was an exemplary seamstress and homemaker whose abilities extended to flower arranging, upholstery and furniture restoration. Her family and friends will remember her sweet, helpful and kind spirit and her appreciation of art, love of reading, and the enjoyment of spending time with her family. After Fuller’s death she travelled extensively. A few of her favorite destinations were Italy, Spain, Portugal, and France.
She is survived by her children, Walter Kearns and partner Tim of Charlotte, NC, Kathy Partin and husband Willard of Apex, NC and Carolyn Taylor and husband Randal of Mt. Lookout, WV; two sisters, Clara K. Abercrombie of Knoxville, TN and Annie Lee Mitchell of Clemson, SC; and eight nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband Mrs. Kearns is preceded in death by a brother, Scott Reid Knox, Jr. and sisters, Virginia Knox, Mary Miller Hutchinson and Mildred Knox.
Sara’s family would like to recognize and express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Pennybyrn at Maryfield for their compassionate care provided during her residence and in lieu of flowers would like memorial contributions made to Pennybyrn (Resident Care Fund), 109 Penny Road, High Point, NC 27260, Back Creek Presbyterian Church, 2145 Back Creek Church Road, Mt.
