Stephen Michael Byrd, 47, of Springfield, passed away on March 6, 2018 at his residence. He was born on November 3, 1970 in Tarrant County, Texas to Michael and Mary Reed Byrd. Stephen married Kelly L. Cook in Las Vegas on June 25, 2003 and she survives.
Mr. Byrd is also survived by his son Benjamin Byrd of Springfield, mother Mary (Gary) LeMay of Oak Ridge, TN., sister Stefanie Simpson of Fort Worth, TX., brother Aaron LeMay of Seattle, WA., uncle Jim Byrd and niece Katy Simpson both of Fort Worth, TX. He was preceded in death by his father.
Stephen was a drummer for twenty seven years in the Carbondale area playing with several bands including: The Silver Tongue Devils, AD/CB and Mothervaudville. He met his future wife Kelly at PK’s in Carbondale while playing with Fink Ployd. Stephen loved to hike in the Shawnee National Forest, attend concerts and go fishing. He enjoyed playing soccer with his son and going to Chuck E Cheese. Stephen was known for his “long political rants” and many facebook debates.
A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Saturday April 7, 2018 at PK’s Bar, 308 South Illinois Ave. Carbondale, IL. 62901.
