father Dr. Clark Gravlee and grandparents. She is survived by her mother Janeene Gravlee,
brother Lee Gravlee (Amy), sister Luanne Chapman (Jay), niece Lee Chapman, and nephew
Austin Chapman. Jan was born in Birmingham and graduated from Mountain Brook High
School. She then went to the University of Alabama, graduating in 1977. After attending
Cumberland School of Law, Jan moved to Huntsville. While there she earned a Masters of
Business Administration and was employed in the procurement departments of McDonald
Douglas and Rockwell International. In that capacity she was actively involved in the purchasing
of equipment for the space program. She then returned to Birmingham and began work as a
realtor with Lawrence, Arendall, and Humphries, a job she loved. Jan, a breast cancer survivor,
was a member of Independent Presbyterian Church, Kappa Delta, and the choral group of the
Junior League of Birmingham. The family extends a special thank you to the wonderful
caregivers who have provided much love and attention. Visitation will be held on Wednesday,
March 14 from 4:00 to 6:00 at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the Brain Injury Association or the American Cancer Society.
