Gretta Greninger Moore died Sunday, March 11. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 12, 1937. She is the daughter of the late Alden B. Greninger and Margaret O’Connor. She is survived by her long-time companion, Paul Windsor and his children, Ben, Rusty, Jeff, and Aileen Cotton, her brother, Lars Greninger (Sue) and sister, Maryanne Merritt (Allen).
Gretta was an artist, talented seamstress, photographer, avid reader and member of the Book Bunch in Jacksonville since 2001. Gretta had a quick smile and well-developed sense of humor. She enjoyed going out to eat with her companion, Paul, visiting with Paul’s family and being with her close friend, Lynn Brown.
As a child, Gretta moved with her family from Massachusetts to Chicago and then to Washington State. She attended Whitman College and graduated from the University of Washington with a major in Art Education. She was a member of the Mandarin High School Retirees Group and Duval Teachers United.
Gretta taught school in California and France and also worked as an adjunct professor at Jacksonville University. She also worked at Channel 4 News in Jacksonville as a graphic artist. She was a charter faculty member at Mandarin High School, where she taught photography. Gretta was also an international traveler, was interested in Native American culture and enjoyed wildlife, particularly in the natural setting of her home.
A memorial gathering will be held from 2:00pm - 4:00pm Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Sweetwater by Del Webb, 9117 Honeybee Lane, Jacksonville, FL 32256. Arrangements are under the care of Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn, 4300 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207.
