Mom was business savvy, she had no education but as mom and wife she saved her money to buy a brand new home and car. “Hands down” she was also the best tortilla maker and the only ones I will ever eat.
She encouraged all her children to educate themselves. My Mom loved us for who we were! My mom always quoted “Hay mas Tiempo Que VIDA”! My Grandma loved education and made sure all of her children graduated from high school. She is a huge part of the reason I have been an educator for 20 years.
Mom taught me everything that I know about cooking and to see people for who they were. She was straight forward and never met a stranger. Everyone that she spent time with, fell in love with her.
By far she was the most fashionable person ever. The warmest smile, purest laugh and largest heart.
Every time we got to see each other you made me feel happy and free minded, she gave me a great respect for cooking.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Juan A. Martinez; daughter and son-in-law, Alicia (Ruben) Hinojosa; granddaughter, Celina Carreon and brothers, Jesus, Sotero, Encarnacion and Porfirio Villarreal.
Left behind to cherish her memories are her children: Lydia (Febronio) Garcia, Juan Jr (Melinda) Martinez, Nora (Martin) Mota, Martha (Mynor) Ramirez and Elena Jones; sister, Emilia Soliz; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
