November 28, 1951-March 8, 2018
Charlie, 66, passed away after a brief illness, with his wife at his side. He was born to Lorea Teague and Charles Webster Doe III. He grew up working on the family ranch near Woodlake, California. He graduated from High School, lettering in tennis, a sport he continued to follow throughout his life. He attended California State University, Fresno, with a Bachelor of Arts in Business, where he was a member Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity. He met his future wife, Lisa, at a college mixer and they were together for the rest of his life. Charlie graduated from CSUF with a Master of Arts degree in Counseling. The couple married in 1976 and moved to Anaheim, where he took a job as manager of the fine jewelry department for Mervyn’s department store. Charlie enrolled at Chapman University and received a second Master of Arts degree in Counseling. He was certified by the University of California in personal management and employee relationships and received his MFCC, Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling license. He served as the director of the Florence Crittenton Youth Services, an emancipation training center. In 1986 the couple added a baby girl, Caroline, to the family. They moved to Stockton, where Lisa’s family lives. Charlie began working for San Joaquin County Private Industry Council which provided training and employment services to those in need. He assisted youth, adults, dislocated workers and the economically disadvantaged in reaching their educational goals and obtaining training and employment. Charlie had a sense of humor, was a gentleman and respected by those who knew him. He was great believer in “making a difference”. Always deeply involved in community sharing, he joined the El Dorado Kiwanis CLBU, and served a president from 2000-2001. Charlie found pleasure in gardening; with no training, but an avid reader, he went to Home Depot with pictures of his garden and was hired, and he worked there until he retired. Charlie learned to play the piano as an adult. He loved the music of the swing era and big bands. He always found time to drive to Visalia every month to assist his mother. He and his wife enjoyed yearly vacations to Morro Bay and Lake Tahoe. He enjoyed dinner with friends and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Preceded in death by his father, Charlie is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lisa, his daughter Caroline Maeder (Anthony), three grandchildren, and his mother Lorea T. Cairns. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Service will be held at DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St., Thursday, April 5, at 11a.m. with a luncheon to follow. Burial will be private.
