(February 11, 1934 – March 13, 2018)
Allan Hart Grundy, Jr passed away March 13, 2018 at home in Sarasota, Florida of peritoneal cancer at the age of 84. A long list of family and friends will miss him dearly and remember him fondly. He is survived by his wife Jane (nee Klingelhoefer), sons Steve (Joyce) Grundy, Mark (Susan) Grundy, and Jim Grundy and grandchildren Patrick (Candace) Grundy, Laura Grundy, Megan (Ryan) Johnson, and Kathleen Grundy.
Born February 11, 1934 to Allan Hart Grundy, Sr and Gladys Gray (Ford) Grundy in Richmond, Virginia, he lived quite a few places over his lifetime, including New Orleans, LA, Milwaukee, WI, Dunwoody, GA and Sarasota, FL but Richmond was always “home”. Most people knew him as Hart since he went by his middle name rather than being known as Allan junior.
A graduate of the University of Virginia with a degree in Electrical Engineering, he spent his entire career with the same company. In 1956, Hart started with the Allis-Chalmers Training Program and worked his way up to become a Vice-President of the company. The company changed names to Siemens-Allis and eventually to Siemens Corporation, but he was with them all the way.
In his spare time, Hart was a sportsman in many ways. He loved Motorsports and spent many a weekend on rally or Gymkhana events, exploring the back roads of Virginia in an old TR-4. An excellent tennis player, he was on the courts from High School until after retirement. He also enjoyed hitting the links for a round of golf and loved hunting, fishing and being in nature.
A man of many accomplishments, his first concern was always for his family. He spent his final days making sure that everything was in place to insure his wife and children would be well provided for and that nothing was left un-finished. We will be forever grateful for all the things that he did to provide and care for us all.
It is a burden to grieve his passing but a joy to remember his life.
