She spent the last years of her life living at Summit Commons Nursing facility in Providence, where many of the staff referred to her as "Lady Gaga" or "My Baby". They loved her dearly and took wonderful care of her till the end.
Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Alvin and Agnes "Peggy" (Allen) Helgerson, she was a lifelong area resident. She owned and operated The Calico Cat, an antique and craft shop in Warren, RI for a few years. She will be remembered as extremely creative, a wonderful singer, artist, seamstress, and most importantly, Mom. She cared deeply for her two children.
A graduate of Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School Class of 1965, she also attended the former Barrington College. She was a congregation member of the First Baptist Church of Swansea, MA.
Gail is survived by a son, Joshua W. Wilde of Denver, CO; daughter, Marcie A. Wilde of Quincy, CA; sister Cheryl McKenna of Rehoboth, MA; her step-mother Beverly Helgerson of Seekonk, MA; and many cousins.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the First Baptist Church of Swansea, 21 Baptist Street, Swansea, MA 02777. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation is prior to the service in the church from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Thomas Cemetery, Swansea immediately following the service.
