Bettye Shell Mathers, 93, went home to be with the Lord on March 26, 2018. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 29 at 11:00 with visitation one hour prior to the service. Bettye was preceded in death by her daughter Carole Jeanne Carter, her son Michael E. Carter, her husband James E. Mathers and son-in-law W. Donald Letford. Survivors include her daughter Judith O'Brien Letford, her daughter-in-law Lydia Akin-Carter, grandchildren Bonnie Letford (Byron Johnson), Ginger Letford Schofield (Chad) and Lisa Couch (Jeremy), great-grandchildren Eli Gibson, Asa Letford, Logan Bach and Lakyn Couch. Bettye retired from Civil Service at Maxwell AFB after 39 years of service; she also worked for many years at Gayfers. She was a member of the Pathfinders Sunday School Class at Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
