Mark McKown Lenhart, of Lyme, CT, passed away on March, 30, 2018, at Yale New Haven Hospital, after a brief illness. He was born on February 8, 1933, in Florence, South Carolina, to Delanson and Alice (McKown) Lenhart. He was a 1957 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and went on to serve on the USS Boston before entering the Submarine Service until his honorable discharge in 1964. He then worked for Corning Glass Works and Stone & Webster Engineering until his retirement. Mark is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sara Sibley Lenhart, three children, Alice, Avery, and Mark S. Lenhart, seven grandchildren, and his brother, Ross.
Mark was a volunteer with the Common Good Gardens of Old Saybrook, CT. He loved nature and the water, and he was an avid gardener and painter. He also enjoyed visits to Cape Cod with his children and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Common Good Gardens at 336 Main Street, Saybrook, CT 06475. A private memorial service will be held later in the spring.
