Lillian (Lee) Grace Granby,( Hefling) was born in Ryley Alberta Canada to Harry and Mary Hefling. She had 2 brothers, Jerry and Bobby (both deceased). The family moved back to the states where they lived in Washington and Oregon. Mom attended Franklin High School in Portland. January 10, 1948 Lee married Robert (Bob) Granby. They were married for 64 years before Bob’s death. They had 4 children in 3 years—Paula in 1951, twins Richard and John (deceased) in 1952 and Mary in 1954. Lee was a stay at home Mom until Mary got into 1st grade. She was a meat cutter and then a checker at grocery stores until joining United Grocers working in shipping and receiving. Upon her retirement Lee and Bob travelled, just for fun as well as to many bowling tournaments. She was an avid bowler until 2011 when her arthritis kept her from continuing.
Besides being a loving daughter, sister, and wife she was an amazing Mom. Nothing was more important to her than her children. Room mother for all, chaperone for field trips and being at every sporting events her kids were involved in were her passions.
Then she got to be a grandmother to 4 grandchildren. Kari Lyn (1975), Rebecca Lee (Becki) (1977), Allison Faith (1980) and Russell (1984). She was there for every birth, game, school event, graduation, and just to have fun. She enjoyed making cookies, smelling and enjoying flowers, and just spending time with the grandchildren that she adored.
And then there was the clan—the Granby’s, Brauser’s, Curtis’s, and the Rathkeys. The guys all grew up together in NW Portland and that camaraderie continued after all married and had children. Once a month Tripoly parties as well as many, many camping trips and picnics were enjoyed and are remembered by all of us, especially those to Merwin Dam.
An amazing woman, our Mom and Grammy will be honored, remembered and loved forever.
The family ask that in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division, 687 N Thompson Street, Portland, OR 97227
