Forrest Emery Bentley was born on February 29th, 1936 to LeRoy and Ida Bentley in Waterloo, Iowa. He was the 9th of 10 children. He had to quit school at a young age to begin working, but in his early 40s he earned his GED. He worked for John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa for 25 years as a machinist and a supervisor.
On October 4th, 1957, he married Carol J. Jaquis in New Hartford, Iowa. Forrest and Carol had two children, Darwin and Laura and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2017 with a trip to Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Forrest loved to fish, woodworking and small engine repair. He was always available to lend a helping hand to anyone. Whether it be fixing their lawn mower, building cabinets, tiling, plumbing, you name it he could always help and usually fix the issue. This unique skill earned him one of his favorite nicknames of “Mr. Fix It”. Additionally, he was also known as “Timber”, “Woody”, “Forrie”, “Forky” and “Grumps” to those who knew him best.
Forrest was a man of great integrity and strength and loved his family and friends with his whole heart. He was preceded in death by his parents (LeRoy and Ida Bentley), his brothers (Herbert, Wally, Herman, Russell, Fred and Roger), and his sisters (Bernice and Louise).
He will continue to live in the memories of his wife Carol Bentley of Prosper, Texas. His son, Darwin (Deborah) Bentley of Waterloo, Iowa, his daughter Laura (Todd) McGlaun of McKinney, Texas, his grandchildren Matthew McGlaun of Dallas, Texas, Kathryn McGlaun of Frisco, Texas, Angelica Bentley, Joseph Bentley, Rebekah Bentley, Elizabeth Bentley and Daniel Bentley all of Waterloo, Iowa. And a sister Ann Everding of Denver, Iowa.
The family would like to honor the wishes of Forrest whom requested a private (family only) service at Stonebriar Funeral Home in Frisco, Texas. He will be interred at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Prosper, Texas.
Visitors will be welcomed at the Bentley home Saturday, April 7th in Prosper, Texas from 2:00-4:00 pm.
