George Thomas Sharland, age 80, passed away at home of medical complications, surrounded by his loving family on April 4, 2018 in Lakeville. He was the son of the late Sidney and Eleanor (Goodsell) Sharland of Dorchester.
George was born in Boston and grew up in Dorchester, graduating from high school in Jamaica Plain. Upon graduation, he heard the call of duty to serve his country and joined the United States Army National Guard where he served honorably.
George was gifted with skill in many different avenues of life. He owned and operated his own construction business which covered all manner of projects with his brother Kenneth for many years. He loved spending time outdoors camping, RV trips, motorcycles, travelling, and enjoying the simple things in life. Above all was his love of spending time with his family.
George is survived by his children Barbara Bergeron and husband Steve of Acushnet, Daniel Sharland, John Sharland and his wife Colleen of Clinton, Thomas Sharland of New Bedford, Glenn Sharland and fiancée Melissa of Lakeville. Brother to Robert “Bob” Sharland and his wife Jane of Burlington, Kenneth Sharland of Bridgewater, Larry Sharland and wife Chris of Kingston. Grandfather to 13, great-grandfather to 12, and great-great-grandfather to 2, his memory will be cherished by many. George was preceeded in death by his brother Donald Sharland of Virginia.
A Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, April 12, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm in the Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home located at 40 MacArthur Boulevard in Bourne.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 13, at 11:00am in the Funeral Home.
Burial to follow at the Sandwich Town Cemetery.
