Carmelo LeBron-Rivera, 91, of Reading, passed away on Saturday April 7, 2018. Born October 9, 1926 in Guayama, Puerto Rico, a son of the late Ramon and Elvira (LeBron) Rivera. Carmelo was preceded in death by his first wife, Mercedes Sulivera- Rivera in 1990; daughter, Maria Socorro (Rivera) Rodriguez in 2016 and a son-in-law, Jose Isaias Eduardo Benitez in 2013.
While living in PR, Carmelo worked in the sugar fields, cutting cane and producing sugar. He left PR in 1979 and moved to New Jersey before settling in Reading.
He was a very religious man and a faithful member of the Spanish United Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed playing the maracas in church. Carmelo loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Carmelo is survived by his second wife, Celia Echeveria; five sons: Jose Ortega and his wife, Jenny; Geraldo Rivera and his spouse, Gloria; George Rivera; Carmelo "Pito" Rivera, Jr.; Juan Rivera and his wife, Brenda; three daughters: Ana Rivera and her husband, Sixto Correa, Sr.; Liseda Benitez; Marisol Lozada and her husband, Angel and Carmelo's son-in-law: Hector Rodriguez.
A viewing for Carmelo will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in Theo C. Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St., Reading, PA 19601. A funeral service will occur Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow services in Aulenbach's Cemetery, Reading, PA.
