Violet Mae (McCaman) Kring, “Vi”, 98, passed away on April 9, 2018 at Good Life Assisted Living and Memory Care in Duncanville, TX. Vi was born December 9, 1919 in Barryton, Michigan, to Samuel and Pearl Blanche (Harrison) McCaman. Her father, Samuel, died when Vi was 3, leaving an older sister, Mildred, and brother, Orvin.. Pearl Blanche remarried William Fetterley, adding step siblings to the family. In due time, half brother, Maurice was born, and finally, twins, Lulubelle and Louis.
Vi grew up in White Cloud, Michigan on a farm until after 8th grade, when she moved to Lansing, Mi to live with an Aunt and Uncle. She finished her education there, including cosmetology school, which later became her chosen profession before marriage. She worked as a beautician in Lansing, Flint and Fremont, Mi. It was in Fremont where Vi met Dr. Robert (Rob) Kring
Vi married Rob November 6, 1947. He was the local “eligible bachelor”, so mom acquired many new female clients visiting the salon to “check her out” as Dr. Kring’s fiancee. During their 33 year marriage, Vi served in numerous volunteer positions including, Meals on Wheels, Sunday school/VBS teacher, Brownie troop assistant, hospital auxiliary, and gift shop. She called on “shut ins” for church, visited new members, and served in a church office capacity as well. Her favorite volunteer task was chairing a committee to refurbish donated dolls for the under privileged at Christmas. This was under the Tucson House of Neighborly Service. The team of women, refurbished 1000 dolls that year, making many little girls very happy! In her retirement years at Freedom Village of Holland, Mi, Vi tutored school children and did manicures for ladies in the skilled nursing part of the building. She was a life long learner, and made the best chocolate chip cookies ever. Rob and Vi lived in Michigan and Arizona..
In 1949, they welcomed their daughter Jane, who, to this day, thinks they were just about the best parents ever! Jane is an only child, married in December 1971 to Larry Neiswender. Vi became “Grammy” to Josh (Jordyn) Neiswender of Ft Worth, TX, Kristi (Tim) Meldrum of Waco, TX, and Mandi (Ben) Rome of Jacksonville, NC. She was Great Grammy to 9: Logan, Annie, Toby, Jesse, Lexi, Caleb, Myles, Violet and Landon. Vi was also aunt to Jim, David, Ann, Gary, Carolyn, Eugene, Alan, Roger and David.
Vi was preceded in death by her husband, Rob, 3/6/1979, parents, her sisters and brothers.
A memorial service will be held in Muskegon, Michigan at Shores Community Church, September 6, 2018 at 11:00, where Vi was an active member for many years.. Vi leaves behind a legacy of faith, courage, perseverance, humor, and a deep love of her family. One of her favorite things to do was to sing old hymns with her son in law, Larry, in the last couple of years. They gifted each other with this pasttime. Vi could not see well, but had all the hymns memorized and kept a beautiful voice to the end. To her family, it was her daily “confession of faith” in her Lord. She is missed by us all, and we look forward to reuniting with her one day in the presence of Jesus.
Memorial Gifts in her name may be sent to Shores Community Church, 3800 Lake Harbor Rd, Muskegon, Michigan, 49441. Phone: 231-780-2476
