Melvin Paul Stavis died peacefully in Boston, MA on April 10, 2018 at the age of 95. He is survived by his wife Helene (Rosenthal) of 35 years, children Norman Stavis and wife Robyn (Allen), Jim Stavis and wife Kate (Griffin) Grandchildren Barrie, Rachel and fiancé A.J. Machnes, Betsy, Josh and Matt Stavis, Mel was predeceased by his wife of 25 years, Betta (Hochberger) Stavis and his parents Abraham and Ida Stavisky. Mel was born on February 22, 1923 in Revere, MA. He served as Sergeant in the U.S. Army and later attended Bentley College. He founded North Coast Seafoods in 1955. Mel was later joined in business by his sons Norm and Jim. They, along with many loyal, extraordinary men and women, created the North Coast family of today. Mel was a lover of people and the human spirit. Whether a new acquaintance or a lifelong friend, Mel always yearned to know more about you and your life. Mel was very generous and philanthropic to the institutions and causes he supported, including Dana Farber Cancer Institute. A Funeral will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Temple Emanuel, 385 Ward Street, Newton, MA 02459, followed by burial at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, MA 02067. Condolences may be extended at a reception celebrating Mel's life at Pine Brook Country Club from 2:00-6:00 PM. 42 Newton Street, Weston MA 02493 immediately following interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Dana Farber Cancer Institute Boston, MA or the charity of your choice.
