Furderer, Carol Patricia (Blum), age 86, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Eula (Lovelace) and Joseph Blum; a granddaughter, Nicole Furderer; and a great grandson, Graham Riley. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert T. Furderer; her children: Deb (Dave) Harvey, Chris (Linda) Furderer, Mari Pelfrey (Gary Hoff), Rob (Lynn) Furderer, Lisa Knight and Jo Furderer; her grandchildren: Aaron Scully, Sarah Harvey, Jennifer Tudor, Kit (Alison) Furderer, Robert Beeson, Abby (Matt) Riley, Tiffany (Tom) Otto, Tony Furderer, Brittany Derham, Nicholas Derham, Colton Knight and Tyler Knight; and 17 great grandchildren.
Carol was born on Christmas Day, 1931, in Dayton, Ohio. Her mother, Eula, fondly told the story of how Carol came to be named. Immediately after her daughter was born, Eula heard angels singing Christmas carols, and thus Carol was named. Bob lovingly referred to his wife throughout the years as "my Christmas Carol."
Carol attended St. Anthony and Cleveland Elementary Schools, as well as Wilbur Wright High School in Dayton, graduating with Bob in the Class of 1949. She began dancing at Lera Rae Dance Schools at a young age, and danced through high school. She was a majorette and a member of Beta Sigma Phi, and also modeled for, among others, Donenfeld's and Thal's.
She married her high school sweetheart, Bob, on April 21, 1951, and the couple began their adventure of starting a family. She joyfully took on the role of homemaker, and took pride in having dinner on the table every night for her growing family. She was passionately supportive of all her children's activities, and was a member of the Belmont High School Boosters for many years. She loved antiquing and looking for treasures at garage sales with her family, planting flowers every spring, creating beautiful ceramic works, gathering with friends and family at the pool, and playing bingo. She happily cared for many of her grandchildren, often sending them home at the end of the day with small gifts, as well as memories of swimming in her backyard pool and trips to neighborhood parks.
Carol worked at Hewitt Soap Co. with her mother while she was in high school and beyond, until she left to focus on raising her family. Later in life, she worked with Bob at Miami Cigar & Tobacco Co., managing the Happiness candy room.
