Marion Eleanor Bohen (Groeber), age 95, of San Antonio, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. She was born September 20, 1922, the fourth child of eight, to the late Louie and Minnie (Fix) Groeber in Albany, New York.
She married Fred Raymond Bohen in 1943, after he completed basic training with the United States Navy. At the age of 20, she traveled by boxcar for 5 days, sitting upright in a windowless train to meet her new husband in San Francisco, CA.
After the war, the newlyweds would settle in Albany, New York, and begin raising their family.
She worked many years for the state of New York, having retired early to help care for her first grandchild, Lea. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
Marion and her beloved husband, Fred moved to San Antonio in 2009 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. At the time of her death, she and Fred had been married 75 years.
She is preceded in death by siblings, Edward, Elsie, Eleanor, Donald and Elizabeth.
She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Fred; daughter, Judy (Bill) McCormack; son, Russ (Pam) Bohen; grandchildren, Lea McCormack-Robinson, Bradley (Tiffany) Bohen; great grandchildren, Riley Robinson, Jack Robinson and many close friends she considered family.
The family is receiving friends on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at the funeral home from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. Interment services will be private and conducted at Fort Sam National Cemetery at a later date.
