In his younger days he would sing “You Are My Sunshine,” slightly off key, but always filled with love and happiness. When Hideo Kuroda passed away on April 4, 2018 in Anaheim CA due to complications from MDS, a little sunshine left our lives. He was 86.
Hideo was born on Maui and graduated from Maui High School in 1950. While in the army he served his country in the Korean War. Afterward, he settled in Chicago where he met his wife, Lily Kuroda, nee Matsubayashi. They married on October 15, 1955, started a family with a son and daughter, and later moved to California where they had another son and daughter. They were married for 46 years before Lily’s passing in 2001. Hideo enjoyed traveling, camping, animals (oh the pets he had over the years!), sports, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. But with that, he had an inspirational work ethic and enjoyed working as a refrigeration mechanic for Safeway stores for many years.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Kevin and Marlene Kuroda, Sharon and Daniel Soto, Eric and Elizabeth Kuroda, and Sheryl and Bo Ith, seven grandchildren, two great-grandsons, and his brother Tadao Kuroda. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Lily, brothers Tsuru, Kazuo, and Masa, and sisters Elsie, Nancy, and Florence.
