Abel Flores Valadez was born on April 17, 1948 to Anita Flores and Gaspar Samaniego Valadez in Mertzon, Texas. Abel was called home on April 12, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Valadez; his children Dominic, Albert, Phillip, Heather, Chris, Maria Elena and Sarinadey; his eight grandchildren; and his five siblings.
Abel always gave his all –with boundless joy and enveloping love. His life was devoted to the service of his country during and after the Vietnam War, to his family close and far, to his friends and to anyone else that was fortunate enough to cross his path. He joined the armed forces during the Vietnam War serving in the Navy and National Guard. His bravery earned him the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He also received the National Defense Service Medal and the Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, among other honors. Later in life Abel enjoyed serving with Citizens on Patrol in Odessa, Texas and funeral duty for our fallen soldiers throughout Texas. Abel was a patient and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He delighted in the simple joys of life: a house filled with the sounds of family, going fishing, a good cookout, a day watching the Astros play, a cold beer and reminiscing with his fellow veterans. He lived each moment with a thankful spirit for all the blessings he enjoyed in this life and secure in the promise of eternal life that by God’s grace he knew awaited him.
