Hal was a “Great Guy”…….
Hal served his nation as a B17 pilot, and eventually retired as a Major in the Air Force Reserves after twenty years of service. A World War II Veteran, POW, Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient, Hal was proud of his service to his country.
After the war, Hal devoted the next forty years building the import/export business for the Quaker Oats Company. While traveling the globe selling his oats, he learned many languages and had the privilege of meeting business associates from all cultures. He never met a stranger!
His legacy with the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is one of commitment and integrity. He served as the Senior International Business Advisor. His colleagues can attest to his humor and wonderful gift of imparting wisdom to his clients, his peers and colleagues.
Hal also served, for the past 30 years, as a Mentor with the Service Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE). He epitomized what all mentors strive to be: empathetic, positive, expert and helpful. He was a “Gentleman from the Greatest Generation”. His work ethic was impeccable.
Services will be Thursday, April 19th, at the Chapel of Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home. Viewing will be 11 AM with a Noontime service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, a charity dear to his heart.
