Martha Schneider, a former resident of Redmond, Washington, passed away on April 8, 2018, following a long illness. She was 94 years old.
Martha was born on April 4, 1924 in Bocholt, Germany, to Johann and Katharina Gigengack. She also had a brother and sister. Her parents, siblings and husband all preceded her in death.
Martha immigrated to Canada in l953, where she was employed as a dressmaker. In 1961 she moved to the United States and lived in this country for the rest of her life. Although living in the United States for many years, Martha maintained her German citizenship.
In 1961, Martha married Manfred (Fred) Schneider. The two of them successfully managed and owned an apartment building in Seattle for many years until it was sold prior to Fred’s death in 1987. They had no children. Martha and Fred also owned a small hobby farm near Redmond where they built a European style home which was their pride and joy. Martha continued to live at the farm until 2005 when her health prevented her from doing so.
Martha was an excellent seamstress. She loved flowers and gardening and spent many hours working in and redesigning her yard after Fred’s death. She loved pets and had many dogs, cats, sheep and goats over the years. Martha loved to dance and regularly attended the weekly dances at the Senior Center in Kirkland. She also loved to travel and went on 19 cruises prior to her 80th birthday.
Martha was laid to rest, along with her beloved husband Fred, at Cedar Lawns Memorial Park in Redmond on April 25, 2018.
