Millard Clayton Holmes was born in 1926 in St. John, WA. His family moved to Cheney, WA where they operated a small farm. At the age of 18 he was drafted into World War II where he packed ammunition for a machine gun. In 1947, he married Natalie (Kay) Mike Emert at the Cheney Christian church. They were always seen together and were married over 70.5 years. He worked at factories most of his life and moved to Creston, WA when Kay began teaching. They left their Creston home in 2016 to reside at Vista Manor in Wilbur, WA. Millard passed away peacefully on April 17, 2018 at Alderwood Manor in Spokane, WA.
He outlived his two younger brothers, Norval Holmes and Marlin Holmes, his mother Mary Magdeline (Maggie) Holmes (Rhoads), his father Harry Holmes, and his daughter, Malvina Holmes (Olfs). He leaves two children, a son (Orlan Holmes) with grandchildren Elisa Mudd, Dawn Holmes, Heather Holmes (Parra) and Crystal Holmes; and a daughter Marlena Holmes (Guhlke) with grandchildren Shelley Guhlke (Phet), Kristy Guhlke (Barnes) and Thomas Guhlke. He had numerous great and great, great grandchildren.
He was known for his travels, woodworking, gardening, baking, collecting ruby glass and doing petti-point pictures.
A memorial service will be held at the Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, WA on April 28 at 11:00 am. Afterwards will be a reception at the Davenport Methodist Church. A graveside service will be held at the Memorial Gardens cemetery located on the Cheney-Spokane Highway at 2:30 pm for family and friends.
