The Mass of Christian Burial is 10:00 AM Saturday, April 28th at St. Therese Catholic Church, 7207 NW Hwy 9, Kansas City, MO; burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, KS. A visitation is from 5:00-8:00 PM Friday at the McGilley Antioch Chapel where a Prayer Service will be at 7:00 PM. Irene was born April 20, 1925 in Riverside. She lived her entire life in the house in which she was born and was the youngest of 9 children. Irene graduated from North Kansas City High School. She worked for many years and retired from Kansas City Southern Railroad, riding in their float during the American Royal Parade. She worked for the city of Riverside as Treasurer and Clerk for many years. Irene was one of the first families founding St. Therese Catholic Church. She was in the Lithuanian Society of Kansas City and traveled extensively in Europe. Irene played tennis until the age of 80 and enjoyed skiing through her 70’s. She was also a hair model in her 30’s. Irene loved animals, nature, and anything outdoors especially growing vegetables and flowers. Many were entertained by her enthusiastic cooking.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Celeste Elder and Bernadette Saunders; 3 grandchildren, Bridget Carey, Edward Carey and Amanda Minniear; and 5 great grandsons, Ethan Carey, Pierce Carey, Knox Carey, James Minniear and Gavin Minniear; and many nieces and nephews, and their children and grandchildren; all who make up her loving family.
