Ed was born on January 6, 1935 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He spent his childhood largely outdoors with his siblings on his family's ranch. After serving two years in the U.S. Army, he worked in construction and on ranches before starting his 35 year career with the U.S. Forest Service in Randall, Washington. He looked forward to new adventures every day in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, and enjoyed sharing stories about his encounters with wildlife and nature with his family and friends. Ed was also proud of his 18 year volunteer service with the District 18 Fire Department in Glenoma, Washington.
Ed was highly respected in his community and among his peers and family. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, strong work ethic, love of nature, culinary aptitude, and most of all for his devotion to his wife, Rose.
Ed is survived by his wife Rose Lee Powell, his sweetheart of 42 years; his daughter Della Burrows and his son Billy Powell, both of California; his stepdaughter Diane Wisniewski of Washington and stepson Danny Lowe of Colorado; multiple generations of grandchildren; his sister Patricia Mack of Colorado; his half brothers Oscar Beck and Charles Beck, both of Colorado.
Ed is preceded in death by his mother, Della Eleanor Beck, and father William Henry Powell; his siblings Kenneth Powell, William Powell, Robert Powell, Lillian Powell, Leona Williams, Arthur Powell, Ruth Bowen, Perley Powell, and half brother Joseph Beck.
