Leonard Emery Vallene, 88, passed away April 21, 2018 at home in Kirkland, WA. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Arlyn, son Brian and his wife Michelle, and three grandchildren, Briana, Brittany and Kevin. Len was born on August 14, 1929 to James and Helen Vallene in Spokane, WA. He graduated from Lincoln High School, served in the U.S. Navy Reserve and attended Seattle University. Len grew up in Seattle but moved to Redmond after he was married in 1963. He began his career in the trades, carrying hod (plaster) for his dad and doing construction work for his uncle but his passion was engineering. Len worked at the Boeing Company for more than thirty years, specializing in weights and balance engineering. In 1966 he used his talents to design and build a summer cabin on South Whidbey Island, which was a source of joy his entire life. Throughout his life Len was very active and enjoyed skiing, golf, billiards, bowling and bridge but family was most important. Friends remember his smile and that he was a genuinely nice guy. Services will be held on Monday, April 30th at Cedar Lawns Memorial Park in Redmond at 2:00 pm.
