Norman Sylvester Wood, 88, of St. Peters, MO passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Edna (nee Stock) Wood and his loving wife, Shirley (nee Cowan) Wood. He is survived by his children, Doug (Debra) Wood, Cindi (William) Headrick, and Sheryl (Arlon) Fowler; grandchildren, Heather (N.P.) Sharma, Haley Perez, Darren Headrick, Chanda (Michael) Bowden, Lisa Headrick, Joshah (Jenn) Fowler, and Micah (BreAnna) Fowler; great grandchildren, Ezekiel, Naomi, Hannah, Drew, Nathan, Aiden, Ian, Victoria, Adrianna, Noah J., Maxxwel, Elia, Gabriel, Danielle, and Toby; and his sisters, Dorothy (the late Stephen) Sherman and Berenice (the late Hubert) Bates; and many extended relatives and friends.
Norman was a dedicated servant of the Lord and his family. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of O’Fallon where he served as a Deacon. He was a former Sunday school teacher and director and a prominent member of the church choir, as well as a soloist for many blessed events. He was a past member of the Gideon’s Organization, the Rotary Club of Alabama, and the PTA. Norman supported his family as an engineer where he worked on notable structures including the steel drawings for the World Trade Center Twin Towers and the Gold Tower at Westport Plaza. He was a talented remodeler of homes and spent time travelling and camping with his family across the United States. Norman was a dedicated and hard worker and passed that work ethic onto his family. His smile, sense of humor and incredible vocal performances will be missed by all. He was truly an inspiration to many.
Friends may visit on Sunday, April 29, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of O’Fallon, 8750 Veterans Parkway, O’Fallon, MO 63366. Funeral service is on Monday, April 30 at the church at 1 p.m. with interment to follow at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in St. Ann.
