James was born in Richmond, Virginia on the twenty fifth of January 1926 to the late Ira and Fannie Sturgill Eldridge. He was a US Air Force and US Army veteran and had worked for the lumber mills in Kentucky as a young man. He attended the Pentecostal church when he could. In addition to his parents James was preceded in death by his wives, Leona Gilliam Eldridge and Ruth Eldridge.
Surviving are two sons, Raymond Eldridge and wife Joanne of Carver, MA, Roger Dale Eldridge and wife Ann of Harland Co., KY; four daughters, Elizabeth Doris Brown of Supply, NC, Janis King and husband Tony of Winnabow, NC, Judy Johnson of Winnabow, NC, Darlene Phillips and husband Howard of Kingsport, TN; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial services are private for Mr. Eldridge.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that monetary donations be made in his name to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, "Brunswick House" at 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28422.
