Rick S. Habecker passed away May 1, 2018, at the age of 61. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He lived in Johnson City, Texas as a very young child, but spent the majority of his life in Pflugerville and Austin. He is a graduate of Pflugerville High School (class of ’75), and obtained his Associate in Applied Science from Central Texas College. He had experience in a variety of professions, but his expertise was in law enforcement and legal work. He was a basic peace officer graduate of the Travis County Sheriff’s Academy and served at the Travis County Courthouse. He also obtained certification as a paralegal from The University of Texas in Austin, and has worked in that profession for the past twenty-three years.
Rick leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Christy, and two daughters, Heather and Heidi, and his son-in-law Paul and beloved grandson Baldur. Also surviving him are three brothers and two sisters, and many nieces and nephews. He will be remembered as a generous man, and he was always quick to lend a helping hand wherever needed.
He had an incredibly strong work ethic, and always strived to do his best in whatever position he was in or whatever task was at hand, both in his job and around the home. However, the single most important thing to him was his faith in God and his desire to reach others through biblical teaching. For the past several years, he has written a blog, christinhistory.com, to express his deep faith and commitment to the Lord.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 8 at 3:30 at Cook Walden Chapel of the Hills.
In lieu of customary remembrances, a donation in his memory can be made to either Calvary Chapel Leander, P.O. Box 843, Leander, Texas 78641, or by sponsoring a child at worldvision.org.
