Lawrence James (“Larry”) Finley passed away May 4th at his home in The Woodlands Assisted Living Center in Brewster, Massachusetts. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Earl and Clarice Dooley Finley.
He served in the U.S. Army in the European theater in World War II. After the war, he graduated from Butler University in Indianapolis and then worked for Indiana Bell Telephone Company, where he was employed his entire career.
He was the devoted husband of Carol Bryant Finley for 68 years and was a committed father and grandfather. He enjoyed his children, spending time with his family, tinkering with cars, and listening to an eclectic variety of music.
For many years, he was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Zionsville, Indiana. After he and his wife moved to Brewster, he became a dedicated member of the Cape Cod Bible Alliance Church in Brewster. In both congregations he was an enthusiastic participant in children’s ministries. The last years of his life were greatly brightened by the love and laughter he shared with the staff of The Woodlands.
He is survived by four children: Marsha Finley of Brewster, James and Donna Finley of Indianapolis, David and Vanna Finley of Zionsville, Indiana, and Melinda and Gerald Wade of Salisbury, Maryland. He was predeceased by his foster daughter June Smith Nesler.
