Gene was born on December 25, 1943 in Grayson County, VA, a son to the late Noah and Cynthia Carico Amstutz. He had worked as a painter for many years and especially enjoyed gardening and hunting. Most of all, he was a friendly, caring, and dependable person.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-son, David Alan Gordon and three siblings, Larry, Barbara, and Robert Amstutz.
Surviving are his wife, Beulah Pope Amstutz of the home; son, Greg Amstutz and wife Crystal of Lexington; stepdaughters Sharon Gordon of Lexington and Glenda Tyree and husband David of Clemmons; stepson, Jeff Gordon of Lexington; three grandchildren, Ethan Amstutz, Ashley Amstutz, and Megan Gross; and numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Gene is also survived by two brothers, Raymond Amstutz and wife Sue of Seville, TN and Bill Amstutz and wife Carol of Dugspur, VA; and three sisters, Frances Norman and husband Jack of Mt. Airy, Margaret Goad and husband Danny of Mt. Airy, and Leona Gold of Lexington.
A service to celebrate Gene’s life will be held at 12 pm Wednesday, May 9 in the chapel of Thomasville Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Workman officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Tuesday, May 8 at Thomasville Funeral Home and other times at Gene and Beulah’s home.
