Born Jane Ellen Henderson on November 28, 1947 to Marjorie and Lets Henderson in Alexandria, LA. She was the youngest of three daughters. She graduated from Tioga High in 1965, where she excelled at girls basketball. After high school, she attended Texas Women’s University in Denton, TX graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy. After graduation, she returned to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to practice Occupational Therapy at Earl K. Long Hospital. In the summer of 1971, she joined the US Air Force where she met the love of her life, Dr. James B. Roane. They were married in Mascoutah, IL on July 8, 1972. After serving nearly two years in the Air Force she earned the rank of Captain and resigned her commission to raise her two step children, Robert and Ronda. The following year the family moved to Norman, OK where her two children, Stephen and Stephanie were born.
She participated in the construction of the family home, raised the four children and managed her husband’s Endodontic practice. She developed a computer program and started a software company, Prolybius, in the late 1980’s.
Jane was the family care taker, wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty and had an amazing talent for art. She traveled extensively with her husband to international speaking engagements. She loved cooking enormous meals for her extended family in her home at Lake Thunderbird.
Jane is survived by her husband of 46 years, Dr. James B. Roane. She will also be missed by her four children: Robert and Dayna Roane of Niwot, CO, Ronda Roane of Noble, OK, Stephen and Hana Roane of Charlotte, NC and Stephanie and Daymond O’Neil of Louisville, KY and by her grandchildren Samantha, Cody, Kaitlin, Daniel, Samuel, Jack and Cooper. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Charlie, Liam, Barrett and Logan; as well as her two sisters Lynn and Sue her brother in laws Gilbert Jordan and Jimmy Racine, her Uncle Dick and Aunt Charlotte McCarty and her many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday May 9th at Primrose Funeral Service, Norman. Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday May 10th at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church, Norman. Burial will be at Norman I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Pastor Wendi Neal will officiate.
