William proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army. He was a proud recipient of the Purple Heart Medal, and has had articles written about him written in the Patriot Ledger and Cape Cod Times.
After serving his country, William married his loving wife Esther (Young) O’Donnell in 1949. Bill would go on to receive his Masters Degree from Boston College in 1954, and another Masters form UMass Boston in 1960. From 1962 to 1984 he taught math at South Boston High School. Bill enjoyed participating in programs at the Dennis Senior Center, and volunteered at Carney Hospital in Boston, Cape Cod Hospital, and Epoch of Brewster and Harwich. He was a past Member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans Association.
William is survived by his children Eugene O’Donnell, David O’Donnell, Kevin O’Donnell, and William O’Donnell, Jr., Sheila Foy, and Barbara McKinnon; 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 9:30am to 10:30am at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 728 Rt 134, S. Dennis, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am at Our Lady of the Cape Catholic Church, 468 Stony Brook Rd, Brewster, MA. Interment with military honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
