Hans Fritz Wilhelm Maertins, age 69, of Phoenix, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born on March 10, 1949 to the late Hans and Wanda (Schuh) Maertins in Braunschweig, Germany. He attended Shelby High School in Ohio, graduating class of 1967; then furthered his education at Ohio State University in Columbus, OH obtaining a Bachelor's degree then a Master's degree at RPI in Hartford, CT in Mechanical Engineering. Hans worked as an Aerospace Engineer for Honeywell. In 1970 he married Margaret Ann Ludwick in Broadview Heights, OH. He enjoyed playing tennis, fishing, traveling, and relaxing at his home in Astoria, Oregon. Hans is survived by his loving spouse of 47 years, Margaret; three children, Jennifer (Emily Moore) Maertins, Rebecca (Duane) Whitcraft, and Brent (Amanda) Maertins; two sisters, Anneliese Beier and Edie Cole; three grandchildren, Lana, Calleigh, and Deklan; and many other loving family and friends. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with the Rosary recited at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Road, Phoenix, AZ 85022. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 16, 2108, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11001 N. 40th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85028 with the graveside service to follow at 11:30 am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery, 23015 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Hans’ honor may be made to St. Mary's Food Bank.
