She was a devoted wife of Michael Hawran for 61 years and the daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha Mayer.
Lois was a proud graduate of Hartford Public High School, Class of 1953. She attended Manchester Community College and the University of Connecticut. She was a minister of Holy Communion and a Lector in both Connecticut and Florida since 1977, first at St. Rose Catholic Church, East Hartford, CT, St. Mary’s Catholic Community in Rockledge FL and St. John the Evangelist Church in Melbourne FL. She also served on the Knight of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.
She and Michael were Long-time members of the Martin Andersen Senior Chorus of Rockledge, and they brought so much joy to many with their singing, especially, “Today is a birthday, I wonder for whom?” as well as many other duet love songs. They were ushers for the Merritt Island Playhouse and volunteers for many years at Wuesthoff.
Besides her husband, she leaves her brother, Joseph Mayer and his family, her brothers/sisters-in-law, Sophia Sharkevich of Wethersfield, CT, Frederick and Judith Hawran of Windsor, CT, Mary and Edward Michaels of Southington, CT and Harriet Hawran of East Windsor, CT. Lois leaves her loving godchildren, Robert Sharkevich of Wethersfield, CT, Bernice Dixon of Bolton, CT and Kate Kaczkowska of Toronto, Canada. She was a loving and caring aunt to numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She also leaves her best friend of 70 years, Helen Kurys of Bolton, CT.
Family and friends may gather at a Mass of Resurrection at Saints Cyril and Methodius Church, 55 Charter Oak Avenue, Hartford, CT 06106 on May 22, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., followed by internment at Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Rd., Bloomfield, CT.
