She is survived by her two sons, Donald and his wife Adrienne, and Bruce and his wife Mary Pat, as well as five grandchildren, Heather, Meredith, Brian, Jessica and Delaney.
Maureen was born in Rumford, Maine on February 2, 1936, graduated from Brunswick High School in 1954, moved to NY in 1955 and happily lived her last three years at the Brookdale Carriage Club Senior Living Community in Charlotte.
A 53-year resident of Greenlawn, Long Island, NY, Maureen worked in the Harborfields Public Library for 44 years. At the time of her retirement in 2014, the library, founded in 1970, bade farewell to its very first employee as Maureen had been hired to purchase and process the first books to be shelved in the then-new library. Maureen loved reading all types of literature and found particular joy in perusing the latest releases while lounging on her favorite Long Island beach. She also found great joy in the activities of her grandchildren and loved listening to them talk about their passions, jobs, friends and trips. Besides her family, she will be greatly missed by her best friend of 71 years, Phyllis Wetherell.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Charlotte on Friday, May 25th at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Remembrances will take place on June 16th in Brunswick, Maine and September 16th at 1:00 p.m. in Greenlawn, NY at the Harborfields Public Library.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be sent to Harborfields Public Library, 31 Broadway, Greenlawn, NY 11740, to the attention of Carol Albano.
