Carmen Lugo of Vero Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the VNA Hospice House. Carmen was born on April 14,1936 in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. She was a wonderful student and grew up playing volleyball. At the age of 16 she relocated to Lakehurst, New Jersey attending Lakewood High School and learned to speak English fluently. Carmen was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to dance, play Pokeno, and spend time with her family. She attended the Senior Center in Howell, NJ and had many friends. With her friends, she would play Bingo, travel on day trips to Atlantic City, attend school performances and exercise. Carmen was a parishioner of St. Anthony Claret Church in Lakewood, NJ. In 2009, she moved to Vero Beach, Florida and began the same activities while she was still well.
Daughter of the late Flora and Luciano Mercado, and beloved wife of the late Miguel Lugo, she is survived by her children, Evelyn Sterling and her husband Howard, Noemi Lugo and Angel Lugo and his wife Lisa. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Melissa Ugarte and her husband Danny, Amanda Bajin and her husband Joe, Kendra Roberts and her husband Travis and Michael Sterling. Also, her great-grandson, Samuel Joseph Bajin. She is survived by her siblings, Gloria Davila and her husband Victor, Irene Mercado and her husband Jose, Carlos Mercado and his wife Catalina and David Mercado and his wife Gloria.
