Margaret “Pegi” Hamner, beloved mother and wife, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Born in Coraopolis, PA on April 26, 1938 to Dr. Bob and Mary Marshall, Pegi was a longtime resident of the Palm Beach area where she was a teacher and consummate volunteer in our community. She is survived by her son, Britt Deviney (Dorothy Jacks) and daughter, Brooke Deviney (Juan Sarazola Manzano); a brother, Dr. Bob Marshall (Janice); and was preceded in death by her husband, Murray Hamner who died in 2016. Pegi had a smile and warm word for everyone she met, and was loved by friends and strangers alike. She leaves many close friends and extended family with wonderful memories.
Pegi moved to Palm Beach County in her youth and attended the original Delray Beach elementary school at Old School Square while her father served in the US Army during WW II. After attending college at Muskingum University in Ohio and Florida State University, she returned to West Palm Beach where she was a teacher at Forest Hill High School until her retirement in the late 1970’s. Pegi was actively involved with many local organizations including the Junior League of the Palm Beaches and the PEO, and especially enjoyed volunteering at The Church Mouse and with her Holy Trinity Episcopal Church family. She could always be found helping others, whether with her exceptional eye for design or a plate of her deviled eggs.
A Memorial Service in celebration of Pegi’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, West Palm Beach, FL, with The Rev. David R. Wilt, Rector, officiating. The family will receive friends in fellowship during a reception in the Parish Hall immediately following the Service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Margaret “Pegi” Hamner – Chapter AL, payable to: FL PEO Scholarship Fund c/o PEO International Headquarters, 3700 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50312-2899
